Direct report of Senior VI. The violence interrupters will assist in providing strategic safety plans that coordinates with the upliftment in the communities of East Elmhurst, Corona, Lefrak and Jackson Heights establishing professional and technical work performing the following tasks:

● Learn about the causes of shootings/killings in order to assist in mediating situations and preventing retaliation between individuals and groups (e.g., working with the community, outreach programs to gain information that may be helpful in preventing additional killings)

● Attend weekly staff meetings and meet with high-risk individuals and groups on a daily basis to discuss issues.

● Work to intervene in circumstances and prevent acts of violence where gun violence is likely, including possible retaliation, potential shootings and conflicts.

● Developing relationships with influential individuals and groups in the community. Refer potential clients/participants to outreach workers.

● Identify and diffuse “hot spots” for shootings and violence. Formulate action plans to help resolve conflicts.

● Attend community responses and events as needed. Participate in organizing responses to shootings and increasing visibility when shootings / killings take place Attend and help facilitate community events and shooting responses

● Get to know all the highest risk persons and the people who know them. Then, work to intervene in circumstances in which violence is likely, including possible retaliation.

● Refer potential participants for needed services.

● Maintain data entry in documenting all contacts with high-risk individuals daily. Document all contacts with high-risk individuals, shootings and other acts of violence that are prevented

● Distribute public education materials within the community. Develop relationships with influential groups in the community. Participate in mediation.

● Participate in all required agency training.

● Communicate and be responsive to outreach workers, program managers, outreach workers, & administrative office at Elmcor youth activities Inc. to develop and formalize safety methods.

● Violence Prevention Plan along with other requests and needs.

● Performing advocacy for participants with necessary agencies.

● Increase visibility when shooting/killings occur (developing networks with other outreach program workers to coordinate an inclusive and immediate strategic response).

● Outreach to the community (individually and as a team member) to build relationships with individuals, residents, businesses, and community groups.

● Respond to shootings in other communities when necessary

● Performing special assignments and related duties as required.

Education and Experience

● Experience working with high-risk individuals and street organization members.

● Knowledge of the street sets, crews, gangs and/or groups of target area(s)

● Excellent communication skills.

● Experience and/or training in crisis intervention.

● Flexibility in scheduling and availability (can include late nights and weekends and holidays)

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $40,000.00 per year
