Summary:

The Sanctuary Shelter Director is responsible for the overall management, leadership and administration of a sanctuary shelter facility that provides a safe and supportive environment for individuals or families in need.  The Director’s primary focus is to ensure the effective operation of the shelter, the well-being of residents, and the coordinator of services and resources to help them transition to stable housing and self-sufficiency.

ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

  • Develop and implement sanctuary programs and services in alignment with the sanctuary’s mission and goals.
  • Create and maintain a welcoming, safe, and supportive atmosphere for residents.
  • Coordinate and oversee daily sanctuary operations, including intake, assessment, case management, and residential activities.
  • Recruit, hire, train and supervise shelter staff, including supervisors, case managers, support staff and volunteers (if applicable).
  • Provide ongoing coaching, mentoring, and performance evaluations to ensure staff are equipped to provide quality care and assistance to residents.
  • Ensure access to necessary resources such as food, clothing, medical care, mental health services and job trainings.
  • Facilitate workshops, counseling, and educational programs to support residents’ personal growth and empowerment.
  • Build and maintain positive relationships with local government agencies, community organizations, donors, and other stakeholders.
  • Represent the Sanctuary in public forums, meetings, and events to advocate for the needs of unhoused individuals and families.
  • Manage the Sanctuary’s budget, ensuring effective allocation of resources to support program operations.
  • Monitor expenses, track financial performance, and prepare regular financial reports for organizational leadership and funders.
  • Ensure compliance with all relevant laws, regulations, and licensing requirements pertaining to sanctuary operations and resident safety.
  • Maintain accurate records, statistics, and reports on sanctuary activities, resident demographics, and program outcomes.
  • Contribute to the development of the sanctuary’s long term strategic plan and goals.
  • Identify opportunities for growth, improvement, and expansion of sanctuary services.
  • Support HR related inquiries or requests.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

  • Master’s degree in Social Sciences, Business Management, Humanities, Psychology,  Human Services, and 2 years of experience
  • Knowledge of Human Resources policies.
  • Attention to detail
  • Good record keeping skills
  • Outstanding communication skills for working with operations staff.

    Job Type: Full-time

    Salary: $80,000.00 per year
