Born and raised in Corona, East Elmhurst, Shanel Thomas has a passion for giving back to her community.
Professionally, Shanel has a diverse marketing background that includes entertainment, media and consumer products. As a successful and innovative marketer and business owner, Shanel has planned and executed over 250 events for corporations such as Verizon, Cricket Wireless, Jaguar Cars, Toyota, Cover Girl, Pepsi, Moet & Hennessy USA, Ciroc, Sony Music and Howard University to name a few. As the Director of Business Development for two nationally known venues, Love Nightclub and The Park at 14th Restaurant & Lounge, Ms. Thomas worked closely with all aspects of management, strategic planning, marketing, promotions, A&R and media, with a particular emphasis on broadening the growth of both venues in the entertainment and special events industry.
Between serving as the liaison for A-List celebrities, corporate sponsors, talent, and vendors, Ms. Thomas has extensive experience in managing complex logistical details including, sponsorship agreements, contract negotiations, on-site logistics, travel accommodations, budget management and billing. Ms. Thomas’ in-depth marketing experience has allowed her to plan and coordinate major events in local and other key markets including the 2009 Inauguration, the Essence Music Festival and NBA All-Star Weekends.
Ms. Thomas’ professional affiliations have included the National Association of Black Female Executives in Music and Entertainment (NABFEME), Endustry Power Players (EPP) and the Golden Key National Honor’s Society.
Upon returning to her hometown of East Elmhurst, NY from Washington, DC in 2010 Ms. Thomas shifted focus from the hustle and bustle of entertainment to working alongside community leaders to give back to her community. Currently Ms. Thomas serves on several boards including, Board Chair of Elmcor Youth & Adult Activities, Inc., Treasurer of Neighborhood Housing Services of Queens CDC, Resource Development Chair of Neighborhood Housing Services of New York City, Treasurer of the Kiwanis Club of LaGuardia Airport, Corresponding Secretary of 115th Precinct Council and Community Board 3 Board Member to name a few.
Currently, Shanel Thomas is the Community Outreach Liaison for the LaGuardia Airport Redevelopment Program. In this role, Ms. Thomas serves as the public information liaison, developing and maintaining working relationships with elected officials, businesses and community leaders.
Ms. Thomas has a BA in International Business with a concentration in Marketing and a Masters in Public Administration both from Howard University. Ms. Thomas has also studied abroad at the Sorbonne in Paris, France, and the Cultural Institute in Oaxaca, Mexico.
