Elmcor – Eustace

“I come out so I am not home all day alone, watching TV.  My family spends time with me and helps me on the weekends.  Everyone at the Center makes me feel comfortable and we eat lunch together like lifelong friends would and sit and talk.  On Wednesdays, the men’s group meets and they offer me support and encouragement.”

Eustace, 91, has been attending the Elmcor Senior Center, East Elmhurst location, most days of the week since he retired (from Sotheby’s) in 2000. Over the past few years he has experienced a lot of loss; moving from his long-time house to a co-op; having knee replacement surgery affecting his mobility; passing of his sister and niece in Barbados; and his greatest loss, his wife in August 2015. Throughout it all, and since then, he has had the support and comfort of his Center family.

“Though I like to walk to and from the Center, sometimes my knee is very achy. I am grateful that the van is available so I can still come out.  Last year, when I was feeling very down and upset, I was able to share my feelings with the staff and seniors at the center.”

“I am so grateful to have Elmcor as my second home.”
