Summary

This position is primarily responsible for the overall management, oversight, compliance, and development of the recreation building and community recreation program. The recreation manager reports directly to the Assistant Director of Youth Recovery Services and supervises the recreation volunteers, program staff; consisting of recreation specialists and front desk receptionist/security. The recreation manger will be able to juggle the operations and inspections of building, recreation/ youth programming, and rental enterprise.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Core duties and responsibilities include the following. Other duties may be assigned.

– Provide diverse recreational activities to all ages and skill levels

– Provide activities for developing youth (educational, parent engagement, career, mentoring, trips)

– Encourage youth participation in various positive youth development activities (youth advisory, community service, comprehensive evidenced-based workshop participation)

– Develop program protocols to improve service delivery and participant outcomes

– Oversees and supervise volunteer coaches of competitive sports programs: Basketball, Softball, Boxing and Baseball

– Maintain recreation building calendar

– Coordinates staff scheduling, ensuring adequate staff coverage for operations and safety during operating hours

– Ensures program meets funding expectations and objectives; timely submission of required reports aligned with contractual expectations (Elmcor, Parks Dept., DCJS and OCFS)

– Maintain and organize participant enrollment database

– Manage participant data, statistics and tracking for quality improvement and monthly reporting

– Maintain regulation documents up to date and posted in the proper areas

– Collaborate with Assistant Director of Youth Recovery Services and Administration to prepare and manage annual budget for recreation program functions.

– Approves purchases of supplies and operating inventory for recreation programs. Develops alternative funding sources for programs and improvements.

– Ensures building is in compliance of FDNY, DOH and NYC Parks & Rec safety regulations and correct potential and identified violations in a timely manner.

– Organize operations recreation building events including: volunteers, concession stand, safety, clean up and set up

– Participate in and collaborate with Elmcor programs, outreach, events and initiatives.

– Coordinates and enforces rental contracting and invoicing

– Solicits new business and cultivates relationships for rental opportunities

– Assists with organizing and implementing agency wide events.

– Required to work evenings and weekends.

– Works with cost consciousness.

– Assists with prospecting and applying for funding to support enhanced and new initiatives and agency

– fundraising activities

– Performs other duties as assigned.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

– Supervise of the Front desk personnel, Recreational Specialists, and Volunteers

– Provides and implements formal orientation plan to newly hired staff.

– Responsible for the overall direction, coordination and evaluation of the program.

– Carries out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws.

– Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, and training employees; planning, assigning and directing work, appraising performance; progressive discipline; addressing grievances and resolving conflict.

– Provide ongoing trainings for recreation staff

– Leads Value team and participates in agency fundraising activities

Education and/or Experience:

– The Recreation Manager should have an Associate Degree from an accredited college with a major in , physical therapy, physical education, sports management, education, or a human services related discipline and 2 years’ supervisory experience working with applicable populations; or High School Diploma with experience equivalent to educational requirement and 4 years supervisory experience

Job Type: Full-time

Salary: $60,000.00 per year
